The Allerton conference is held once a year.
It is run by the University of Illinois,
and takes place about 20 miles south-west
of the university.
-
Gil Shamir
(October 2000).
 |
Here he is, giving his talk.
I often advertise his many papers on
compression of piecewise i.i.d. sources.
Gil is currently at Notre Dame.
-
Tsachy Weissman
(October 2000).
 |
Tsachy is fondly known to all as TV.
Here he is talking about Hilbert curves and
their application to image compression.
Tsachy is currently working on his Ph.D.
at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
-
TV and Yiannis
(October 2000).
 |
Yiannis Kontoyiannis is an extremely amiable
statistics professor from Purdue.
We went to the gym together, as he was here
for two weeks. He is also working on a
certain landmark paper.
-
TV and IS
(October 2000).
 |
These are Tsachy Weissman (to the left,
known as TV) and Ilan Sutzkover
to the right.
Although he is not known as IS,
it went well with TV.
-

(October 2000).
 |
